i definitely learned a lot about duck hunting this season. still have a long way to go tho. i think i only averaged about 2 birds/hunt, maybe a little more. i had a pretty solid start but in the last month my brother (not the one on here) and i had some pretty terrible luck with boat trouble and water levels in the marsh, and with me getting sick for a solid 8 days and fricking over two weekends.

the season went out with a bang though. i stalked a wood duck hole 3 times this afternoon (i got two on passing shots this morning) from different angles trying to get my 3rd woodie for the last day of the season. i got a long shot at a drake but couldn't put him down & subsequently flushed out almost every other duck in the hole. i backed off and restalked one more time from the other side because i thought there were at least one or two more ducks there though. i slowly worked my way back in, but couldn't see anything moving after watching for a long time. after a while i tried breaking some limbs and stomping around to try and flush out whatever was left for a passing shot. nothing. finally as a last ditch effort i shot my first shell across the water to see if anything would jump up. a lone hen jumped about 100 yds away at the arse end of the pothole and for whatever reason headed straight for me. i was totally exposed, so i just froze until she was almost within range. i shouldered my gun and my second shell only made her flinch, but just as she was passing into the trees over my shoulder i rolled her with my last shell. great way end to the season. kind of reminded me of the LSU Arkansas game though; by all rights i should've had my limit early this morning, but damn it was a fun finish anyway.

Another great deer season for me and my 9 yr old as well. Spent many a Saturday near St. Francisville. Watched him lay down 2 FAT nannies, and actually took one down myself. Passed on a lot of young bucks, and never got a shot on a Big Man. Oh well, the freezer is full, and spent a lot of quality time together with him learning some good life lessons.

Looking forward to next year when I will have a 7 yr old and a 10 yr old both hunting. Still not sure how I'm gonna manage that, but what the hell, it'll happen.

Looks like baseball practice starts in a couple of weeks. So it is out of the woods and on to the field for my crew.
