I know next to nothing about AKs, who are the high quality, average quality, low quality brands?

Arsenal is high end production.

Anything from Century Arms is on on the lower end.

If you're looking at folding stocks, go with side folding. I have both side and under folding and while under folders were the original configuration, they are not fun to shoot.

That's not exactly true either way. There's probably more variation and misinformation concerning the AK-pattern rifle than there is on AR's. It's hard to get a bad rifle from Arsenal just as it's easy to get a good rifle from CAI. I did a lot of reading up and picked up a CAI Zastava as it seems to split the bill on quality and cost. There are some things I'll have to keep an eye on with the Zastava and I'll be more limited on what accessories are available but an Arsenal isn't going to be practically any more reliable or accurate and that means a lot when considering the price difference.

High: Rifle Dynamics, Krebs

Mid: Arsenal

Low: I/O

Everything else falls in the scale. Throw out a name and we can probably tell you where.

I have 2 Arsenals and 1 Romanian. They work well.

It's an AK. As long as it goes boom and the bullet goes in the general direction you're aiming you're ahead of the game.

You just missed out on a great deal on a magpul edition RAS47. 640 at cabelas after tax.

I'm probably going to go with the century arms ras, they've had there problems, but I'm gonna take the chance

I have an NPAP in my collection. It's a fun and solid little point shooter, however that high arse comb makes it hard to shoot irons without getting slapped around. Do you know a workaround?

You're gonna get murdered on this board for admitting that you have a RAS47 and don't think it's a complete POS.

That being said, I have a RAS47 with Magpul Zhukov firm on it and I love it.

ETA: here it is. PGS - FDE

Its a little more expensive than if you bought all the Magpul kit seperate and installed it yourself, but that assumes no extra shipping costs. If you really want to save weight, then I would go for the standard Magpul upgrades. Will save you about 12 oz, but I reaaaally like the extra length on the hand guard, and the folding stock is just cool.

I was looking at the Magpul Yugo-compatible side-folder a little while ago. Adjustable with optional cheek pieces but they don't make matching furniture for the front yet.

I've bought my first two so far this year: a Century NPAP and and Century WASR10.

I first bought the NPAP and I really enjoyed it. Cheek slap isn't a big issue if you keep your eye close to the receiver. The biggest issue with the NPAP is lack of aftermarket accessories.

A couple weeks later I came across a WASR10 at a local gun shop and traded a shotgun for it. The WASR10 feels cheaply made compared to the NPAP. I upgraded the safety to a Kreb ambidextrous safety. I did have an issue with a canted front sight and I had to send it back to Century. Century corrected the issue and got my gun back to me three weeks after mailing it.

I like my NPAP over the WASR10, but I feel both are good entry level AKs

I got a pair of wasr10 and a c39v2 that I put the magpul stuff on. Got it in FDE and had it dyed. Only shot one of the wasrs but it went bang as did the c39. Love them both. Might trade the other wasr for another kind of ak.

They don't make them they import them. They make the ras and c39v2. Most of them are sold out as far as I know. Someone may have a line on some.

Buds had some npap's a few weeks ago when I ordered mine. I just ordered an optic mount since the gun has a built in slide so when it gets here Monday I'll update. I'm not really too sure on how well it fit the gun
