Short story is that I was given a Craftsman 54" ZT mower. It needs a new spindle and a new handle. I've sourced the spindle but I can't source the steering handle. Also, is this a decent mower?

The newer Craftsman mowers are shite but since it's free you're not out much.

Find out which pump you're using and then see if you can find another mower that uses the same pump and just order one of their handles, or both handles if matching is a problem.

Most of those guys use the same pumps.

- Give it back!!!

I've had nothing but trouble with my Craftsman 54" ZT.

Had to replace spindle each year, both front wheels crapped out on me after 2 years. Currently not functional bcz it stalls once it gets hot.

This is the second unit in 5 years, had to replace the first one entirely after it kept trowing the belt off, ends up that the frame was jacked up and the deck never would line up correctly. Thankfully I had to 3 year warranty

Briggs & Stratton Part 1725934ASM

-TUBE-1.00 OD 21 LG

TUBE-1.00 OD 21 Long

fits a multitude of mowers, including snapper...measure the arm and see if this matches 1' outside diameter by 21" overall length

is there a possibility that the giver actually hates you as a person and human being in general?

when it is working its not too bad, but I have threatened on multiple occasions to drive the damn thing into my pond.

Wish I would have bit the bullet and went with something commercial. I know I would be much happier right now if I had. This may be my last year with this thing.

Finally got around to ordering some parts for this bad boy. I think it will be an easy fix. It doesn't need the entire steering arm. A bolt is slipping out of the arm so I need to figure out how to get it back together and make it stay (blue loctite probably)

When I was in college, I worked at a sears. I hated the zero turn as I never saw one that didn't come back. Back then if a salesman sold one and it came back, you lost the commission as was taken out next check.

Whatever they selling for, save up extra and get a better one from another company. Peace of mind has a quality all its own.

Sell and get a scag.

Mine has been in the family for 10+ years now.. Was used by my brother in high school for cutting yards, then was used by me in high school cutting yards, and now currently is only used for cutting my parents and grandparents house. I grease it, and change the oil once a year, and has never been to the shop. The belt for the blades popped once, easy fix.

I get a few of these in my shop they are not the worst or the best they are avg residential zero turns. One of my stores I cut the grass around the store with one and my partner takes it home to cut his residential yard in a subdivision. Not really designed to cut field grass but at that price point none of them will last cutting field grass. Subdivision grass you should get some good life out of them. Price wise they are easy to fix nothing to them.

Most residential zero turns and riders have non serviceable spindles on some you can change the bearing if you know what you are doing. It is not that hard to change the spindle.

For the guy claiming his Briggs engine is overheating it might be your ignition coil is bad. It is an easy fix not hard to replace. Pretty simple engines nothing much to them

I will call and see what my part price is.
I bet you I can get it a lot cheaper than the Internet.
