I think the Yugos are not Chrome-lined. Would you be so kind as to confirm, one way or t'other?
they are not
99.9% of civilian shooters will never notice
the yugos on the classic site i posted all have pristine bores and unless you shoot a lot of corrosive surplus without cleaning, they'll stay that way. regular steel russian ammo is fine
agree with the others on the magazine...those duck bill things are atrocious. the standard fixed 10-rnd mag works great (the rifle loads from the top). with practice you can load a stripper in seconds, or in just a few more seconds you can handload 10 rounds easily

WoW they have gotten Expensive!!!
I gave about $70 for my first NEW Norinco & $102 for 1440 rounds of Chinese Steel Core. That rifle was stolen & I replaced it for about the same.
Russian used SKS was about $80; New one bought for about $100.
Simple Green will easily remove Cosmoline.

supply and demand
the supply is limited and the demand is great
nobody makes a new SKS anymore so the ones that are out there are all there will ever be
I paid 300 for my yugo which as I said is basically new condition but the Vietnam issue Norinco was about 80 bucks, very well worn

Wow I paid about $80 for mine and ordered 1000 rounds of ammo for $59. I put a tactical stock on it though and a red dot

Converted an SKS to detachable and was never able to get it to feed right.
Unless you know your stuff or have someone who can help who does I'd stay factory with the magazine.
Course this was pre YouTube era so who knows...

This is why I never converted. I just have a bunch of awkward arse magazines.

I like unaltered military firearms, used in combat or not, that are period correct. If I wanted a magazine feed for my SKS I would just buy an AK.

There was a factory SKS that took AK mags.
I got a Chi-com 20 round fixed that's nice.
