Is it reasonable to assume that the gigantic explosion eliminates the beaver problem along with the dam? How big of a hole does he leave in the creek bed?

No he puts a drum of burned motor oil with a small hole in it so it drips continuously in the water. The beavers leave voluntarily soon after.

The Mississippi River is 200' deep at New Orleans so probably not that deep but close to it.
