This or you have weak batteries even though they were checked.

On my Dodge, I can hear the glow plugs kicking on and off. Don't know if you can hear yours or not.

Not turning over at all isnt glow plugs. That's probably weak batteries or starter.

Turning over and not starting is probably glow plugs

Normaly
Won't turn over under 40? Batteries
Won't crank under 40? Glow plugs

Could be a semi bad starter pulling to many amps from cold batteries.

Hope this helps

ETA you got the right answer while I was typing

Batteries are done. A battery tester doesn't know the difference between a good battery or a bad one with a surface charge. Running a thinner synth diesel oil in cold weather helps take some of the strain off the batteries when cold cranking.

Agree. That's why the good battery chargers have a load testing device on it. If you load up the battery and the voltage bleeds off...chances are that's an indication of a dead cell and it can't handle the load (starter in this case).

Yeah, wouldn't it take a really long time to heat them up if they were bad? I'm not sure about the computers on the 7.3 though, so maybe not. Haven't driven one in probably 5 years

shouldnt these truck have glow plug heaters? in temps that low arent you supposed to turn the key for a min to heat the plugs up prior to cranking?

Connections. Take all of your battery connections off and clean them. Then make sure to snug them down real good. Your problem should go away.

Loose battery connections always bite people/mechanics in the arse....

agree it's not the glow plugs...There are performance trucks I know of in the northeast that do not have an intake heater or glow plugs in them and they still turn over in January after the motor spins over for 15 seconds or so...

compression will eventually give you the heat needed to complete the combustion process...
