56mm scope, anyone use one?

I read that one...its not really for the magnification that im looking at a 56....more about low light. The mag ranges on the scopes im looking at are 2.5-15. One if the 56s is 5.5-22 so id probably drop to the 50mm in that one...I dont want that much magnification.

Light recovery is from the tube size, not the objective.

I went up to a 34MM tube and stayed with a 50MM OBJ with a Steiner T5xi. Its a light gathering son of a bitch. I can see out to 250 yards on a clear day up to about 5:40pm where I hunt. You step up in price but it is worth every penny IMO. I became a beleiver in spending the money on optics after shooting a friends gun that had a Leupold Mark 6 3-18-50. It was unbelievable but of course that is a $2300 scope. You get what you pay for in most cases with optics. Spend $300 expect a $300 scope. Not bashing people that have them.

I have a Meopta R2 56mm with illuminated recticle. Does pretty damn well at light gathering. Way better than my 50 mm Leupold vari x 3 .

. Hunt frequently with my dads rifle which has an old 50 mm swarovski on it. I prefer the 50 swarovski to the 56 meopta. If i had the $$ I would get a new 50 or 56 swarovski with the illuminated rectilce, but those get real pricey

As of now the hunting is from a box stand thats why im thinking of it...and the rifle its self is heavy its the 20" SPS-aac rem 700 with a bull barrel that will one day hang a can off the end. How much does it being higher over the barrel effect it?


I thought the objective is what captured more light not the tube...isnt the tube for a bigger range of adjustments? Either way the 2 im looking at both have 30mm.

Thats what im looking at currently the meostar r2 and the swarovski z6i. But that z6i is a bit more coin. I was trying to keep it to 1700 max but could go up if it was needed. This would be my first high end scope...best I have now is nokon m308 and a prostaff 3x9x50

Light transmission has nothing to do with tube size. Bigger tube just gives you more elevation and windage. Light transmission comes from the quality of the glass and the objective size.

I have a 90's vintage swarovski that is 56mm and that sucker lets you see till it is really dark outside. Extends shooting time a good 15 minutes past my leupold vx2

bigger tube = wider range of adjustment, increased rigidity. that's all. shite, even most 30mm scopes from guys like Vortex use 1" erector systems
