35 Whelen...Its a 30/06 case with a 35 cal bullet. It shoots a 200gr bullet at 2600-2800 fps.Nothing primitive about it and the deer are usually DRT.It does kick like a mule but only when sighting in.I have one...My wife shoots the 45/70...seriously

My bdddy just texted me that the 45-70 he has is an "New Englans arms, used to be H&R". Whatever that means.

Its the make and model. I have that one with the wood stock with a 3-9 Burris on it and out to 200yds it shoots well.

So it sounds like the best route to check into these .35 Whelens for primitive weapon season.

i'd strongly recommend .444, i feel like it adds more versatility to a rifle portfolio.

Both, but mainly MS.

Chad, I thought I read the 444 is not primitive and I am not finding anything on the net saying otherwise.

I have a CVA 45-70 with a Nikon Buckmaster scope. Others may tell you it kicks, but when you go to pull the trigger on a hog or deer, you are gonna have a little adrenaline pumping anyway. When you sight it in, use a lead sled. On the other hand, the 35 Whelen is a great gun.

I put 20 bullets down range yesterday and 20 out of the 7 mag.

Shoulder is little tender today. At 300 yards the drop is like 2 feet.
