Its already here...you can't put the genie back in the bottle. As soon as my extruder comes in. I hope to start printing one/several of these.

Sounds like a future "Dateline" episode...

St. Martin Parish teen dies in accident after using a 3D printed single shot 416 Rigby he made using designs he found online..

I'm all for gun rights. I just don't see how this is a good thing.

The gun laws now are entirely too strick but you have to have some sort of checks and balances. Lets not fool ourselves.

I think this is incredible. This is a major step forward for firearms technology and freedom. However, the backlash from this may be quite severe. We'll just have to wait and see.

It's certainly going to enable Darwin's theory of natural selelction to have a wide testing ground...

I think its interesting in that it effectively takes money out of the gun industry and also the gun lobby. I'd have to imagine that all of the major gun manufacturers are against this unless they think there will be money to be made licensing designs or software somewhat like McAfee or Norton Antivirus on your pc.

Until these printed guns become capable of anything more than a single shot, they will never be a threat to modern sporting arms.

This is why I think it is a good thing. Making guns more affordable and available is a positive thing. Also making it harder for the government to track a gun is a good thing.

The way I see it is the criminals already get guns illegally in spite of the laws prohibiting them from doing so.

This is one of those weird times when the gun industry and the gun control lobby may have some common ground although the gun industry likely won't come right out and say they think it is a bad thing.

I agree, but as quickly as technology progresses and assuming no intervention happens how long before a functional semi-auto appears? A year, maybe less?

We both know someone is actively working on making it happen...

A couple of years ago the prevailing thought was that making a pistol that would actually fire a bullet that didn't have any metal parts other than the firing pin was simply not possible. Obviously it is. In another couple of years who knows what will be possible? This technology is growing by leaps and bounds.

If you haven't been following defense distributed they have already produced a functional lower receiver and standard cap mags. They also produced a fully printable gun that used a nail as a firing pin. Freaked the government out something aweful a couple months back.

Imagine this you have a box in your house capable of producing any non organic material good that you need. Instead of driving to Home Depot you go online and download a file. This is the biggest frick you to the government that you can ever have. In a couple decades its going to completely revolutionize how goods are produced and consumed.

yeah, I'm gonna pass on this one.
Modern firearms made in a factory under industrial conditions going through quality checks still occasionally have catastrophic failures.

Not gonna trust a gun printed on a KMart bought Lexmark 3-D printer make in some dude's basement.

The government is probably less worried about you printing goods as much as finding a way to tax you on the items you make.

Smith and Wesson made this polymer weapon.

People are already using polymer upper and lower receivers.

If you have guns made by a gun manufacturer then you don't really need and probably won't want a 3D printed gun. This is more for folks that either can't afford a traditional gun or in the event that guns are banned from legal civilian purchase.

True. What better way to tell them to go frick themselves but by producing goods and services they can't tax?

I got into this because my friend wanted to make 3D models of his pulling lures, with the ability to pull the prototype, and see how it runs…the gun and magazine prints are just a awsome by-product.
