3.5 mm vs 5 mm neoprene waders

Is there a huge difference in the warmth of these 2 different thicknesses of waders. I had to buy a 3.5 mm pair because that is all they had in my size (13) and I'm going wading for the 1st time tomorrow morning. Just wondering if I made a mistake.

Tomorrow will be one of the 3 days in Louisiana when 5mm is appropriate.
3.5 will do fine though. You'll be happy you have them on the other 57 days of the season when it's 50 degrees.

3.5, you can always layer up underneath them.

3.5 max for NWLA.
Honestly, you can get away with uninsulated waders around here 99.9% of the time. I am usually sweating balls on every hunt in my 3.5mm waders.

Breathables with layers underneath is the most liberating thing you can do with clothes on after years of hunting in neoprene waders of any type.
In the 80s and early 90s I used canvas...froze my arse off. In the 1990s and early 2000s I used 5mm neoprene with all the armour you could get to prevent rips (but they always rip in the crotch or the boot.
From 2003 til about 2009, I used 3.5 Macks Big Ditch.
I have used breathable fly fishing waders for years but made the transition to duck hunting in breathables in 2010. Best decision I have made, hunting wise, in a long, long time.

Red Balls all the way (or Blue Balls as we called them.)

We called them no balls, because they shrunk up inside you...
