.300 Win Mag Loads, What y'all shoot? (Update From Range)

So I picked up a savage 111 trophy hunter in .300 win mag today. I own a .270 and a .243 so I wanted a caliber that I could really do it "all" with. I have read that a larger load is easier on the meat when white tail hunting. Anyone want to share what they shoot with there 300?

I don't have a 300..but I have been doing a lot of research on my 270wsm. I've always shot soft points ie corelokts or Winchester PowerPoint. But it seems as though bullets travelling at those speeds (+3000fps) stand a good chance of fragmenting at semi close ranges..say 150yes or less.
With that said, my next sighting session will use a a good bonded bullet.
Folks around here are big on Barnes...so I might try those.

I've tested several rounds, this has been the best round for my shooting style. Accurate as shite and hard to find

Have you shot them at long range? They were great in my 300wsm at 150 and in, but they flew everywhere at 300 yards. I couldn't consistently hit a corn sack. My cousin had the same results out of his 7 mag.

Barnes Vortex TTSX 165gr. Sub 3/4" groups in my rifle, and has performed quite well on deer. Only four kills with this combo so far, but all were DRT. That includes a 240 pound buck at 219yds and a 210 pound buck at 396yds. All shoulder shots, and though I didn't need it, looked like nice exits for blood trailing.

Okay, so I put some rounds down range to get my rifle sighted in today. Picked up a box of Winchester 180gr power points. Everything shot well and got the gun dialed in pretty well. However, the gun was having problems racking in another shell after ejecting the spent round. Is this maybe a matter of factory oil and needing to be greased well?
The problem was the round would get thrown above the chamber when trying to slide the bolt in.

You dont waste any freakin time, do you man?
But for real, may just need a good cleaning. and re-oil.

Haha, I'm off this week and will be hunting all next week so I wanted to have the gun ready to go. But, idk it's weird the magazine holds 3 rounds and it always seems to be the second round that wants to either fly out or try and jamb.

After cleaning it, nothing is changing it seems like the round is jumping into the chamber and out of the seating. So when you push the bolt in it drives the round out of the chamber. Only happens on the 2nd round. Could the magazine spring be too stiff?

Thats exactly what it sounds like, but no idea how to fix that without replacing the spring. Maybe just work it back and forth for a while.
But they're are much smarter folks on here that might have other suggestions.

Yes, up to 500 yards. Shot federals, hornadys, a few others, and xp3s. Xp3s held the best group and could hold true from 100-500 (shooting setup based on ballistic charts and relying on drop reticle).Winchester Supremes are almost the same. Predictability is key, and they're predicable as it gets for an out of the box round. I've shot a few custom loads and the difference wasn't worth the trouble.
I would mention a few choice above the neck shots that I've made with them, but we're not going there again.....
