Awesome man. You had a great summer, congrats

Thanks guys!
It was a fun, but challenging/exhausting adventure. Exactly what i was seeking. Many thanks to LSUintheNW for suggesting it last year!
A few lessons learned:
- train by walking parking garages to get used to going up AND down with a pack. The decent was very tough on the legs
- trim your toe nails very short. On decent, big toe nail pretty much came off due to rubbing boot.
- cliff bars freeze at high altitude. Beef jerkey and pop tarts work well.
Now to turn the page to next year: Gotta start looking for next year's challenge/adventure
I will pick at least one from the link above for next year

Everything on that list would be awesome. This one could be challenging. Cross country skiing for 300 miles...

You should do join me for the Grand to Grand Ultra in Sept 2014-----167 miles, 7 day, self supported stage race from rim to rim of the grand canyon

Very cool race and exactly the types of things I like to try.
Will read rest of web site on the details. $3,200 entry fee seems like a lot, but I guess there are a lot of expenses. I've already got all the required supplies .......
Are you definitely doing it?

She's actually only 32. Bad pic I guess. She's an avid climber. Has done a bunch of climbing/ trekking including Everest base camp, Mach Picchu and some other 14ers.
She had a little trouble keeping up on the approach to Camp Muir because her stride was shorter than the rest of us. Other than that, she did fine.

What was the technique for getting across the horizontal ladders? Did you walk upright or crawl?

You walk upright. There are 2 x4 boards laid on it to step on. Your crampons wanted to stick into them a bit. It flexed a good 6-7 inches when you got out in the middle of it. Biggest issue was the 30-40 mph winds and that you had to move slowly across it; no sudden or jerky moves.

That must have been pretty difficult if there were no handholds.

While certainly admirable, this is nothing I couldnt do easily. But congrats though.

While I think doing stuff like this is ridiculous I think it's awesome. I'm just opposed to exertion and death.
