2023 Tacoma Lift Kit questions

I bought a 2023 taco in December. I have had numerous 4 wheel drive trucks throughout my life and I have never done any alterations to any of them.
I want to lift the truck about 3 inches but want it to be level. I don't want to look like one of the instagram assholes with hashtags all over and carolina squatting.
I have no idea what I would need to do and I don't want to look like a fool when I go to the auto garage.
Is the best thing to put spacers? Get new shocks? I really am a dumbass when it comes to this.
I have 265/65/R17 stock rims and tires. Do I need to just go bigger on them?

The 2018 Tacoma I bought for my son had a 3"/2" spacer lift on it with wheel spacers and 285's on it. Looks really good and level without looking jacked up. The only issue I found with it is the fronts need shims to get the pronation fully out of them after alignment.

I think the Taco is similar to the 4Runner in that once you get in the 3" range you start having to consider aftermarket upper control arms, or else your alignment will never be quite right and you'll have issues with balljoints down the road.
I'd look into a set of Bilstein 5100 front shocks using OEM coils, you can set them to various heights(stock, 0.65", 1.1", 1.55", 2"). I believe set to 1.1" levels it out, or if you want to go a little bigger can do 2" with an Add-A-Leaf in the rear to get ~1".

Assuming the 23 is like the 2gen, you will lose all caster with +2” and will be difficult to get good camber- ie it will drive like shite.

Just did a dobinsons ims kit on my wife's suv, it rides better than stock. I would recommend doing the full set up with new UCA, springs and shocks. In the long run you wont regret it. Do it right the first time, i have learned the hard way.

I ended up, after initially with a 2” level coil spacer, with Old Man Emu 886 springs on Bilstein 5100s set a “0”, OME rear leafs, JBA high caster upper control arms, second Gen.

I’d recommend doing some research, as stated tacoma world is a great resource.
Old Man Emu is a brand, 886 is their heavy coil springs meant to carry a winch and bumper up front. They also sell a rear leaf spring called Dakar which his what I have. I got about 2” out of my setup after it settled.

Like I said, I installed my lift 10 years ago now and still rolling it. Maybe some better choices out there now idk.

yeah definitely do the research, i went with Dobinsons due to ih8mud forum some guys having OME start squeaking. OME and Dobinson are both Australian and they put those trucks though hell and back. I would stay away from icon, had two buddies have to send shocks in to get rebuilt before two years on the trucks.

After reading some stuff on tacoworld, I think I will go with bigger tires for now and see how it looks and rides. Can always add a lift later.

I’ve got a 17 trd sport (2wd) and have been really surprised at where a good set of ATs, airing down, and picking good lines have taken me.

I am trying to do the same thing for my son.
This summer I am gifting him my 2022 Tacoma. It's his gift for making straight As. And I want to do something similar. Like just a slight lift and level with some bigger tires. I want it to look very understated, not jacked up.

I run 285/75-16 or 255/85-16 on mine with my “lift”. Mine was relatively cheap but I did all of it myself including alignment(s). Just replaced my shocks last summer. Edit to add I went with 5160’s on the rear this time. 5100 ‘s we’re too short and blew out relatively quickly.

The general consensus is to avoid the cheap puck/spacer lifts and Rough Country products, the option I listed for Bilstein 5100s up front on factory coils is pretty much your cheapest/easiest option(~$300 for a pair) if you just want to level it, or if you want to set them higher you can set the 5100s a little taller and do the Add-a-Leaf in the rear which is ~$200. This is all assuming you have the tools to DIY it, not factoring in any shop labor.
