When one guy on the leading team has almost as many as the second place team TOTAL, you know he shot some birds! Looks like whoever makes the Canada trip each year will put their team in a good shot for first

Thanks for the update!

Team Gray Duck making up some ground! Won't catch Team Wigeon, but the battle for first place loser is fierce! Hoping to hold off Team Sprig.

I know this is a silly little OB contest that just gives us an opportunity to showcase some of our hunts and BS along the way but being able to allow Canada hunts has kinda taken the fun out of it for those that aren't so lucky.

Maybe next year we remove guided hunts? Because if someone goes to the frozen north of their own accord and does them dirty, they deserve all the points they get.

Yea it is a little ridiculous. If we do it again we might have to start taking out the Canada trips because it does make it a little unfair to go and smoke that many ducks and geese.

That's the thing, on a Canada trip you are pretty much gonna wack ducks AND geese. You get some pretty impressive piles that way, on top of getting the dumb ones out of the gene pool before they have a chance to migrate. Only there and maybe Kansas/Okie can you pull that kind of carnage off.

I live in OK, and while we have good numbers of ducks and geese, you aren't pulling that off without professional help. You need lots of land access and lots of time to scout.

That's why I said eliminate guided hunts from the totals. That eliminates most of the canada hunts and the OK/KS slaughter-fests. If someone goes on a DIY public land hunt anywhere in the world and whacks em, it should count.

How would we police that? Pretty easy to do on a field hunt in Canada with 50 Snows/Specks/Canadas and 30 molted Mallards but not so much on a guided hunt to Hackberry Rod and Gun.

I don't really have a problem with the Canada hunts. Lord, I want to go bad and probably will next year but we can't touch those teams that have those hunters.

Yea Im not in favor for eliminating guided hunts all together because no matter what you wont make guided hunts all year and if you do then by all means spend your money but the trips to Canada are a bit much when you spend a week up there limiting out on geese every day. If anything we could change it to where you can only count the ducks and geese like our limits allow. I think that is how we did it last year but I cant remember. Im always open for suggestions on how to improve it.

The same way we police everything - the honor system.

I agree. And not that I have ever hunted or not hunted based on this competition, bu if we want to make it more competitive, restricting it to non-guided hunts is one way to do that.

So it's a guided hunt just because you pay someone? Me going to Arkansas with my buddy who hunts it everyday is essentially a guided hunt without the money. Not everyone has primo hunting leases or the capacity to hunt good public land.

Yes I did. Caleb and Matt were great to hunt with. Hate we didn't get on them in BM, but had two good hunts on the WRR. Those ducks work so much easier. Hope they get to make a trip back up this way next year when we are flooded. I think they would have a blast.

At least they got on a good ole "Racer" squirrel hunt. Busted 18 one afternoon with dogs!!

Looks like you found some flooded trees. Where ya finding those?

Yup. It's an easy distinction to make. I really couldn't care less, just thought it would be a clean break.

Agreed

Eh, gonna agree to disagree on this one. I know plenty of people in LA, TX, MS, AR and OK who all exclusively hunt public land and do well. Mostly walk in hunting too.

Eta: that probably came off more dickish than intended. My general idea was that we count birds that we killed and to me, a large part of that is putting in the effort to find the birds or bring the birds to you. Guided duck hunts eliminate that.

I would be good with limiting it to the US. Nothing wrong with guided trips. It may boost someone for a 2-3 day period, but it won't be 16 points per day like Canada puts up

I understand that but I think you're being a little full of yourself to pretty much say oh I work harder for my birds therefore the guys with the easy "guided" hunts shouldn't be allowed in this competition. Some people don't have the time to go scout for birds and then pull a basically all nighter on public land to get their fill. I'm not talking about myself here, but more so the people who do partake in guided hunts who you seemingly want to eliminate from this thing. And as far as I'm concerned, guided hunts aren't successful but 50% of the time anyway, regardless where you go. There aren't any stakes in this game so who really gives a shite if someone goes to Canada or not, but I guess if majority feel that way, then take a vote for next year and make it happen. Personally, I've seen this shootout go down in quality from year to year (I'm not doing it any god :lol), so I'm thinking it should just be changed to a general season wide waterfowl thread where we can just post pictures, discuss, etc without getting too much into the competition of it all. Just my .02

eta: guides don't do a damn thing that you or I can't do on our own. They just have the land and the birds (sometimes)

Wasn't going there at all, just that it was an easy delineation to make as opposed to excluding people who fly to canada. It was somewhat arbitrary. I really just didn't want to punish people who went the whole DIY route in Canada.

And I agree 100% - good guides have 2 things most of us dont: connections to hunt lots of private land and time to scout. They also have an incredible drive to do that day in and day out.

The only reason I like the teams thing is it makes it feel less like a "look at me I'm bragging about my great hunt" thread. Honestly, I probably wouldn't bother posting about my shitty hunts if it weren't for this thread and it's a good reminder that not every day is an easy limit. It's refreshing to see everyone scratching.

I go to canada totally freelance. No guides. All on my own work. So before people start acting like thise birds are bought and paid for might want to actually get the while story. So if we are dumping canada, which is legal hunts, then why not drop everything outside of LA. I can bitch I dont have all the birds in the reg season some boys are ahooting so its not fair. Sounds like sour grapes to me.
