I am a Ford fan through and through, but can eat crow with lots of salt and pepper.

Recall

This aside, how exciting are the next few years going to be for truck buyers?!

2016 Nissan Titan with 5.0 Cummins
2016 F150 Raptor with upgraded Ecoboost and either 8 or 10 speed transmission
2017 Super Duty Redesign
2017 Toyota Tundra 5.0 Cummins
2017 Ram 1500 Redesign (I think)
2018 Ram 2500/3500 Redesign

This is why I will retire old.

The new one looks much better than older style. Still incredibly silly, especially for anyone not in the desert.

Hope they offer the upgraded motor and trans in other models like they did the 6.2. If not, Ill take the diesel Tundra or trade for a new F250.

The cummins tundra combo is gonna be so sweet.

I am very excited about the Tundra. I am slightly concerned about turbo lag, but the Titan will show if this concern is valid or not.

I did forget another big debut: 2016 will see a new generation Duramax. Same trans though (great for stock power). Pep, what did you do to your trans?

Rumor on the street is that the 5.0 is wayyyyyyyyy too much motor for the Titan.

horseshite. I was actually coming back to say that I want the 5.0 in the Taco. Anybody got a ballpark weight on the 5.0? Id be very surprised if it weighed much more than the 5.7 or any 6.2.

5.0 Cummins = 899lbs
5.7 Hemi = 560lbs

Couldnt find 6.2 Ford/GM weights

It's very drastic overkill for a tacoma. to put it in terms a Ford man would definitely get, it would be very much like dropping a brand new 6.0 powerstroke into a tacoma.

I can't recall the specs right off but the 5.0 isn't overly heavy for a V8 diesel. The power density is very good.

It's just too powerful and expensive to catch on IMO, but it will definitely be fun to drive and out pull any other half ton motor on the market.

ETA: and its definitely a game changer in the US. I can't wait to drive one.

Had to look up what an I-shaft was

These damn kids and their damn abbreviations. Laziness

Eta: Hopefully Nissan figured out how to build a rear end

Weights listed in my last post. Does include after treatment (EGR not DPF).
Taco was a joke. I would like to tune and delete a 5.0 in a 1/2 ton though.

Hammer, I still don't know. Didn't care enough to look it up.

What I'm ready for is for Ford to go after the 6.7 cummins.

It's a shame we waste such a fantastic motor on Chrysler trucks.

If the current 6.7 Powerstroke weren't so damn great, Id agree. Only issues at all are with the HPFP, which have been upgraded for 2015.

I don't think it's going to be very tolerant of hot roddding.

With how nice the new colorados are I think the small Duramax can be a hit. It depends on price point. If they can bring it onto market a few dollars below $38k (yea right) it will sell well.

Why? They finally cracked the '14-'15 Cummins and are having amazing results. Different motor, I get it, but still.

Just a guess. It's a smallish V8 that I suspect will be designed for a much lower duty cycle than the big 6.7

The 6.7 is designed for some heavy duty shite. It's used in busses, trucks, boats, generators, etc. I think the 5.0 will be designed as a light tuck motor more than a cross-application HD motor.

The Fiat 3.0 is getting pretty good reviews while getting tuned and hopped up. Ill go find some hard numbers, but they were squeezing A LOT out of that motor over stock, if I remember correctly.
