Haha, I guess I should've checked this before I bought it. My BIL's gearhead friend told him the 6.4 is good but to stay away from 6.0. I'm paying 16,500 for it and book showed 24. Guess I might put it on Craigslist and see if I can turn it

Check this website out. It has all the info you need. The guy that owns this place only works on powerstrokes and can give you all the pros/cons for each motor.

I could have pointed you in the direction of a '11 6.7 FX4 Lariat for not much more.

Ford's 6.4 is arguably the worst Diesel engine ever put into service. You're gonna go broke on repairs.

Too late buddy, I'll keep y'all updated on how much of my kids college fund I have to put out on repairs.

Any specific things to look out for?

Had an 08 F250, truck is a turd and kept having problems with the exhaust manifold bolts braking and the DPF filter, bought a DPF delete and a Spartan tuner set for 275HP and the truck was mean before the tuner i wouldnt pass a vehicle cause it was so slow but the tuner woke it up. About a year later the torque converters went to slipping and i traded it in. Granted the torque converter issue was me and the tuners fault cause is stayed romping on it. Now people say with it programmed you will stretch the head bolts and stuff and i disagree because a 275 tune and me behind the wheel would have definitely caused them to stretch

Thanks, I don't know what any of that is but I'll keep an eye out. I'm just using it for around town stuff and to hunt in. Maybe I'll get lucky

If you look under the truck by the passenger front door there is a huge filter that is your DPF filter, every now and then while driving you will notice your truck will go into regen mode which is when it is cleaning out the filter, also you have 3 sensors on top of it, i had one go out i think it was my EGT sensor and it left me stranded on side the road and i had to wait for the truck to completely cool off to hurry my arse to the nearest exit and gas station, luckily i had just stopped and bought the sensor before it happen and had to change it in the parking lot of an exxon lol

Delete egr and exhaust. Will need a tuner for truck to start after dpf delete. Get a tuner and put on lowest hp gaines possible. Watch for leaks under truck. Radiator sometimes leak and you will need to change.

Also your BIL gearhead friend probably never owned either a 6.0 or 6.4. So was bad to take his advice
