Hey. I think me a/c clutch is going out. I got to hit it with a hammer to get it to kick on some times and I am having to do it more often now. How bad of a bitch is it to replace the clutch.

Clutch is easy to replace. Better off replacing the whole truck though, just to be safe.

Personally I would replace the A/C compressor now. Reason, because if the compressor go out, it could sent trash to the condenser. If that happens you are looking at 500 to 1000 dollars to replace and clean the lines out.

Mine was acting similarly last year, and I had to drain and add 134 twice before it started working correctly. Dunno wtf was going on, but that worked. Ironically, a shop told me my compressor needed to be replaced.
Stick some gauges on it before you go replacing anything.
I think you can get just a clutch kit from rockauto

This......I had a ac clutch go out and my mechanic evacuated the system and put a new compressor on. Evidently it didn't get all the trash out the first time and he had to evacuate it again....he went ahead and put another compressor on too.

Thanks for the advice. I had the truck since it was new. Still in good shape only 137,000 miles on it. This is the only thing that has giving me trouble so far. Knock on wood. Haaa

Fact. I did this and had to replace a bunch of stuff past the compressor.
I going pretty fast at the time though, so that didn't help.

Same thing happened to me, but it killed the engine and couldn't started. I had to turn the ac button off to get the truck to start.

AC clutch is cheap and easy to replaces...you just need a special puller to get the old one off and also need to know how far to pull the new one back on so it doesn't slip. You should be able to buy the clutch and the puller at autozone.
