Within 80 yards I do head or neck shots with a rifle. I would never attempt a headshot on any medium to large mammal with a bow at any distance. That's just stupid.

I killed a nice 8 point a few years back by hitting him with a brain shot from behind, no tracking, but also not close to where I was aiming, but luck counts!

2nd 1/4 an inch higher and the deer runs off to be eaten by coyotes while it's mom watches

Besides all the obvious that you guys mentioned in your comments, I also find it odd that he did not show the rest of the deer...
I suspect the deer was killed some other way (shot in the body) and then cut with a knife behind the neck and posed in that manner.
