WOW...THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. Enough of the ROC & OAR bullshite. If that's the way their state media wants to portray it then let them try to explain away when their athletes aren't allowed to compete in an Olympic event until the second half of this century.

The redhead who looks like Avril Lavigne in Skater Boi was just pissed because she thought she was underscored
Johnny speaks fluent Russian but didn’t quite understand the context watching it live, I guess.
The winner has a very light accent. Not great vocabulary or command of the language but a much more natural accent than older Russians who have lived in the US for decades.

She’s like their Coach K/Saban/Belichick apparently, as the guru of all gurus.
One of my friends is really into this stuff and she sent me some quotes she has about one of her former skaters (the one who Putin hugged after she won the team gold in Sochi) and she basically says the girl is just so naturally fat she has only been given shakes and juices for months.
It’s an insane comment but the girl is also clearly petite to begin with. Apparently she retires soon after and went to rehab for bulimia.
It’s a very exploitive system.

I work with a team of Russians that are all over the blue collar - white collar spectrum. I thought Shcherbakova's accent and English was phenomenal, lol.

She had very natural pronunciation.
But I think young people are exposed to so much English that each subsequent generation is better.
Most of the Euros in the NBA are uneducated morons, besides the Gasol brothers, and they have lighter accents than tenured faculty

Tirico hit that squarely on the head. Bach going after the coaches might be foreshadowing a lifetime ban. And that comment about this threatening the existence of the games (which are mostly financed by NBC) doesn't get made unless the higher-ups there have green lighted it.

A much better comparison would be to the Karolyi's and the stink of the whole USAG system. Apparently, it's pretty easy to abuse little girls when they come out and compete and always win while looking gorgeous. There a reason that Anna (winner) is one of her oldest students. 17 is about as old as they get before they are too broken to keep going. Many other skating champions have competed into their 20's, but hers never do.
Just like the Karolyi's, competition between the girls was fostered and there is not camaraderie that would help the girls mentally. Just like the Karolyi's, there's a super close watch on food (just don't allow much of it at all) and weight is constantly monitored.
That's just abuse. Plain and simple. Abuse.
