taken from MSNBC's website on today's hearings
The original witness list for this week's hearings included Donald Vidrine and Robert Kaluza, who were BP PLC's top managers aboard the rig, but neither is expected to appear.
Vidrine has been scratched from the list due to health reasons, according to a Coast Guard spokeswoman.
Kaluza refused in May to testify, exercising his constitutional right not to incriminate himself. His attorney, Shaun Clarke, said Kaluza won't be testifying this week "barring something unforeseen."
These two guys right here hold the key to the whole disaster. Funny how they're not available.

Thats bc they are most likely 50% responsible for the whole thing and would be the ones facing criminal charges.

#1 - I imagine the depression is almost too much to bear.
#2 - I'm sure they are both lawyered up to the gills and are being instructed not to say a word unless it's in a criminal court.

I would not say a damn thing either.

Donald Vidrine and Robert Kaluza are certainly at fault as well as the head guy w/TO onsight (on 04.20.10)who allowed the procedure to continue. Just ask the hands from Schlumberger. I have gotta believe they were all taking orders from someone in Houston. Wonder what the pucker factor there is.

I would tend to believe this. I've been wondering where these guys are now. Did they get a huge raise and then relocated to a project in Siberia to keep them quiet?
How high up in the chain of command did the problem originate?

Sad thing is nobody is gonna do time and BP will carry on. They cannot fail cause we need them to pay for the cleanup. Although, the guy calling the shots should go to jail, (11 dead, billions in damages) if that ain't criminal I don't know what is.

Time will tell the Gov will be hell bent to hang someone.
Possible but the people responsible for this will have to live with it and I can only imagine laying in bed at night trying to go to sleep and all that comes to mind is I killed a bunch of people and I ruined a bunch of peoples lives including my own. I dont know about you but that would bother me.
Killing a home intruder would be something most people could live with this aint even close.
The other thing you have to think of is BP could be bought out they do produce around 700K barrels of oil a day plus gas in the US alone.

It's very rare in this type of incident to bring criminal charges against anybody. You never hear of pilots going to jail for airline crashes for example. The only one I can think of right now is the train collision in California where the engineer was busy texting somebody and missed a signal. Was the captain of the Exxon Valdez convicted of anything? I don't remember...maybe he was.
In any case, there will definitely be a witch hunt when all this is over. From what I've seen so far (and it's still VERY early) there were a lot of questionable decisions made. No single one was the "cause" of the disaster but if almost any one of them had been made differently, this whole thing never would have happened. It's always that way with big man-made disasters like this. Chernobyl immediately comes to mind. It was exactly the same way.

Louisiana has jurisdiction 50 miles offshore?

My guess is the feds go after the 2 BP Co. men & the Transocean OIM. Something tells me the engineer that wrote the drilling program, basically the HMFIC of the whole job, walks away.
Does anyone know if BP contracts out their company men or if they hire them directly?

In this case it was a contractor.

Hmmm, I'd be curious to hear if BP is standing behind them or if they're going to throw them to the wolves.
Posted on 7/20/10 at 12:14 pm to LSUKNUT
Yeah, me too. The thing is though, BP hired them so they need to be careful who they throw under the bus.
