I understand the frustration, but this well had little to no chance to be plugged prior to the relief wells.

This is like the earth pissing a little.

It's ok to piss. It's ok to shite. It's ok to fart. It's ok to burp.

Just don't do all four at the same time.

I understand that. Just seems like BP wasn't even willing to make a serious effort outside of the relief wells. I would have been OK with that had they said that upfront and just focused purely on containment at that point.

but many people would be calling for their heads for not at least trying faster methods in the meantime.

they probably had a good indication that not much else had a serious chance of working. I do think mistakes were made. for instance, the obscene amount of dispersant used at the wellhead probably prevented a successful top-burn.

People are for their heads anyway. It's a now win for them and they knew that from the beginning. I truly would not be as upset had they just concentrated on better containment at that point.

yup. I felt the same way after Katrina. What do people honestly expect Bush to do? What do people honestly expect Obama to do? Part of being president is handling stoopid expectations.

Too late

Those pictures came out yesterday, and I guarantee that opened the eyes of so many people who weren't paying attention before..

You would be surprised how many PETA-ish freaks there are out there

honestly? act like that's the only thing on your agenda and send at least 10x more aid/workers than is needed and as fast as possible. that's the only way to avoid criticism. if you've worked with emergency preparedness since katrina, that is exactly how they operate
