Where are you looking?
I have been getting emails from different places from Gulfshores to Seaside offering great deals.

There is no oil is destin and have been very little affects. Why would you expect deep discounts? 20% is better than nothing. Plus the poker run is next month and that will keep two weekends busy out there in august.

Brett Robinson is offering 30% if booked online according to their site.

The Beach Club is offering a free night and other stuff. Most importantly they are waiving their deposit and cancellation policy which is pretty tough normally.

I deleted my emails in the last month from Seaside, but I thought those folks and Sandestin had some pretty good rates.
I know these places were only 30-40% full most of the summer all over the coast. Maybe getting your 20% off is a good deal, especially since they capped the well and people might be thinking about booking again.

Only problem with the Beach Club is that it is a 20 minute drive back into Gulf Shores to do anything.

I have absolutely no complaints! Condos are super nice and there is a ton of stuff to do within the resort. It takes about 15 minutes to get to Gulf Shores beach strip if you want to venture out.

with the economy in the shitter, you could get great deals on places to stay in the pan-handle the last few summers. This summer, though, is different. The owners are not taking lowball offers because they can just let the place go vacant (without someone in there trashing the place) and then turn around and get FULL rent from BP via the claims process.

The PR person with Seaside has been sending out alot of emails where they were offering specials, etc. I noticed I haven't recieved one in about a week, so maybe things are getting better.

They had a pretty good special two weeks ago(offering discounts and resort credits, etc), but in order to take advantage of this offer, you had to pay full upfront and I don't think they were much of any cancellation policy.

There are some very desperate real estate investors in the Destin area. If you cant find a great deal on a unit right now, your realtor must be a moron.

edit: Oh and it has nothing to do with the oil.
