Since we have a ski thread going, has anyone been here before? The wife and I are going the beginning of March and looking for any tips.

This will be my first ski adventure ever so I'm wondering if it will be a bit more difficult to learn in the Alps.

Zermatt is nice. I've been to Gstaad, Zermatt, St. Anton, Kitzbuhel, and Chamonix in the Alps. Loved them all.

The determination to start this thread was that there was already a ski thread?

Bc Zermatt is a ski destination, coupled with the facts that the other thread is 10 + pages already and I'm looking for tips from anyone been there... Yes.

Probably. The Alps are generally a lot bumpier than the Rockies.

Kind of a silly place to choose considering the exchange rates in most of Europe are the most favorable they have been in a very long time, but if Zermatt is your choice...go for it.

The Franc is also exceptionally low to the dollar, we've gone through a lot of Europe already. The Matterhorn is on our bucket list.

It's probably pretty nice and you'll have a good time.

That being said, My take: if I'm going to spend my vacation learning to ski and falling down a mountain, I'd just do it in Colorado.. If I'm going to fly to Europe, I'd spend my vacation in cool cities and stuff.
But you'll still have a good time, no doubt

No it's not. The Franc has done nothing but get stronger in the last 10-15 years while the Euro has lost tremendous value.

He asked about the mountains, and you want to start a money argument?

In general, it is much tougher skiing in the alps. I'm fairly decent on the slopes, and thought that Innsbruck overrall was considerably tougher than any place I have been in the states.

I don't think you understand how all this works, so I'll leave it at that, but simply put, the USD will get you much less in Switzerland than it will in Euro denominated countries.

It do cost money to do it. What did you bring to the thread?

That doesn't mean shite until you look at prices.

You'd be shocked by just how much food costs over there.

Just went in September. Didn't ski.

Dude you're an idiot, and I'm in the finance field. $1 USD = .92 Euro. $1USD = .99 Swiss Franc.

And thanks to everyone else for sticking on topic, I had heard it was more rocky there. But anyway, I'm sure we will have a good time.
