Found this over on the poli board.

Liar liar pants on fire. But pretty sure I'd rather pay for my kids college education than be scared into tax increases that will never be removed.

JBE answers TOPS question

WOW. That didn't take long.

Although tuition may increase and TOPS may not be able to increase with it, he stated that he would keep TOPS the same and not decrease TOPS like Georgia did to their HOPE program.

Is there a difference between decrease and totally canceling it?

Please explain what Vitter would have done/would do differently right now.

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman".

Really. I feel for those who truly aren't in situations to pay for college. We will be fine. Lol my freshman daughter is crying "how will I go to LSU" and I'm like "stop" .. It'll be fine somehow.

But for me it's like meauxjeaux2 said in another thread ... Able bodied people getting continued "assistance" and not having to work/seek employment and that doesn't even seem to be considered an option for cutting.

He won't do that to his butt buddy King. They will keep using the annual oh no! LSU football might be cancelled this year scare tactic and they will get what they want because no one will call their bluff.

I agree that he is a lying piece of shite but have zero problems with the defunding of TOPS. If someone wants to go to college badly enough they can earn or borrow the money to do it and/or in many situations get federal welfare.

I think that other things need to be considered for cutting as well. And how about seriously raise TOPS requirements?? Friend in Georgia is sweating if her daughter gets state assistance .mfie college .. 3.5 is the minimum gpa needed.

How about not giving people raises during his first week. No it wouldn't make a dent but it would look like he gives a shite.

As a career army officer, I consider this, generally, a negative mark on someone's resume. There was a single exception to that in my career, and he was torpedoed for speaking the truth about a subject - by another West Pointer (among others).

So, there's that.

I'd be curious as to what his vote was regarding the universities having the ability to do their own increases.

I don't see the point in completely destroying TOPS. But the standards for receiving TOPS do need to be modified.

I am all for reducing the funding and making the requirements more difficult. But immediate discontinuation of the program with zero notice is bullshite.

It is just political grandstanding.

I have no problem with cutting programs across the board. Two problems though...

1. They will NOT cut programs across the board

2. More importantly they will NOT do anything to address rising costs which lead to over inflated budgets

It's business as usual for politics. JBE is a piece of steaming shite just like Vitter just like Dardenne etc.

Anyone who expected any different is too stupid to help.

Putty serious question as I truly don't know. A friend told me their daughter qualified for lower level of tops and $5500 in I think stafford loans.

That's not enough but where do other loan options come from? A regular bank?? Stafford is a government loan, correct??
