Say you have 2k to spend. What would you buy? I'm new to this whole watch game.

Your need to decide what style watch you like to narrow it down to specific models. Of course these definitions aren't exclusive and you can wear what you want.
i.e. a diver, which typically has a larger bezel around the crown and are usually versatile for everything from daily wear with a tshirt up to a suit.
Aviator/pilot/military watch which may have a larger face and is more refined, and you'll see on metal bracelets or leather straps.
Racing watches typically have busier faces and can still be dressed up in certain situations.
Or a dress watch, which usually has a simple design and is often worn on a leather strap.
As far as brands, in that price range I'd look at Ball, Oris, Longines, Raymond Weil, Ebel, Bristling, and Omega. You'll have to look at some lightly used versions of some of those, but that's a great way to get a lot of watch for less money if you know how to avoid fakes.

Bump.
Bought this beauty and I absolutely love it. Have gotten tons of compliments on it.
Glad I only spent $400ish as opposed to the $4k for a similar looking Tag Heuer Grand Carrera with rubber strap. And the Eco-drive is truly awesome:

How's that? It's a quartz watch with a rechargeable battery.

I for one think a watch powered by light is cool.

I guess. I'm sure it keeps great time...though that's not something I value highly in watches.

My dad has this ridiculous Omega. Hopefully he will pass it on to me one day, but hopefully not anytime soon.

Wait, you don't value a watch that keeps good time?

48mm is way goddamn too big. Their normal pilot is 46mm, and that's too big for my skinny wrists. I think 41 is about as big as I'd ever go...of which this bad boy would do.
I do like IWCs though, they're beautiful. Actually it inspired my recent watch purchase with the grey faced pilot watches. This is awesome...just hilariously big. If you're 6'4" and 260 though I'm sure you could pull it off.

I'm not being a dick but I wouldn't wear either of those. Just my tastes, likes, etc.

I mean I want it to keep good time, but since I remove it every night setting it to the correct time every couple of days doesn't bother me.
I tried to speed up my 2824-2 the other day. I couldn't turn that little screw though.
Hopefully my new watch will be within 10 seconds a day or so. I'm minutes now.

That's the beauty of watches, you get to wear exactly what represents your personal style.

It's all about taste. Size doesn't bother me as much does a crowded dial. I feel like I can't read it if too much is going on.

I'm almost 6'2, and weigh about 210
Not all that far off, height wise at least. I'm not a small guy.

Some busy watches are head to read. But this Citizen is actually very easy. I also love the ability to quickly set it to any US timezone.
