and I called the permit office to find out if any permits were needed before I begin construction. I've called and talked with multiple people and I keep getting two different answers from everyone I speak with. Either they tell me yes a permit is needed or they tell me no, one is not needed if it's detached and under 100 sq ft. I want to do the right thing, but I can't get a consistent answer from anyone and it's frustrating the hell out of me. Would you just say the hell with trying to get a permit and move forward with your project or keep trying to do the right thing to find out what's needed? The neighbors I know of who've built their outdoor kitchens all said they didn't bother obtaining permits. I now see why all of them made the decision not to!!

Get the name of the person that said you don't need a permit then begin building without a permit.

Did you tell them your name or address?

If so better get a permit.

If you live in a neighborhood, get approval from your homeowner's association.

Call the area planning commission, IIRC the permit office sends everything to them to review prior to giving you the permits. Also ask about trade permits (water, electric, gas), they are separate fees.

What is the answer you're looking for? When you get that answer, stop and get the person's name. Carry on.

That's awesome until you get flagged and possibly fined.

Are you running a gas line to the outdoor kitchen?

There's an accessible line already installed at the rear of the house I will tap into, run that under grade, and then pop up underneath the kitchen where the grill will be located.
