There's a poster on the OB who's a falconer and knows how to train and raise them.

He can learn, and he can get the license.

It can't be hard. No harder than, say, trapping the hawk. That had to take some skill.

Sigh. Comprehension. You can't just take it out of the wild. You basically have to do an apprenticeship BEFORE you can legally have a bird.

Becoming a falconer is a long, and time intensive process, yet can be very rewarding for those who stick with it. At ARC, we often get visitors who want to know more about how to become a falconer.
If you wish to start falconry, you should budget around a year to become permitted, and start your apprenticeship.

We sometimes hold Intro to Falconry Workshops at ARC, usually in the spring and fall, for prospective falconers.

There are three stages of falconry:
- Apprentice, which is where you begin
- General, or two years of falconry
- Master, after seven years of falconry

To become an apprentice, you need several things:
- A permit from both your state, and the federal government
- A sponsor, at least a General level falconer
- A Mews, housing for your bird

Federal offense. Get rid of it and remove this post.
Dude on another forum hit an owl, and it got hung in his grill. Dude took pictures and posted them. Within 2 days he had a Federal GW show up at his house wanting to search it.

What could a hawk catch that you could actually eat?

Eh... NM.. Y'alls from Louisiana, y'all will eat anything.

I'm sure this dude knows what he's doing.

You don't just plan to trap a hawk and not have some kind of skills in falconry.

Sure it's illegal, but it's Hammond. Nobody knows where that is.

Look up the laws on hawk traps.

I'm thinking this guy's in the clear.

You don't eat it, the bird does. My brother catches rabbits with it and goes out to Texas or Kansas for two weeks every year to hunt jackrabbits.

Maybe the hawk just wandered into the cage. Maybe he likes it there. Anyone ask the hawk?

You're pretty thick headed. It's a raptor. If it gets loose and rips a kids face off and it's proven that this guy is keeping it captive he might have a wee bit of a problem.

As kook said it is a federal offense.

Look, all I'm saying is that the guy caught the hawk.

Props for that. I don't care about laws and wardens and all that. I'm not a cop. I don't trap hawks. But if I did, I'd prolly have done some research.

That's all I'm sayin.
