WW2 medals and patches

I was going through some old boxes at my parents house this week and found these. All I know is that my great grandpa brought these back from Europe. I'm not sure where he was stationed or which battles he was in. I did some googling but quickly found myself on some shady sites researching the nazi medals. Anybody know a reliable site that I can use to look them up without ending up on an NSA list? I'm going to New Orleans next month and if I have time I'm going to bring them by the WW2 museum.

Bring them to Rick Harrison. He'll tell you all about them plus offer you about treefiddy. (Cents, not dollars)

I'd call them first, they might have a time when someone who knows what their looking at could give you some valuable information, or might be able to point you in the right direction.
In my dealings with sellers of nazi memorabilia - on the firearms side of things - is that half those guys, or more, are slightly off their rocker. But there are those out there who appreciate the history and most of those are usually willing to help free of charge.
ETA - On second thought, maybe call the local VFW; there's probably some old guy down there that could tell you a lot.

No expert, but that first batch of German medals look like work or domestic medals (non military)

Don't give up, I lost my father earlier this year and putting his shadow box together was an experience I will never forget.

Already thought of that, still a good suggestion

I'm not trying to sell them. I don't want to meet anyone who runs in some of those circles. Just want some info. Thanks for the VFW idea

That's some neat stuff man, thanks for sharing. When you get it looked at give us an update. I'd love to learn more about what you have.

Based off the Airborne patches and Nazi medals, looks like your great grandpa kicked some arse and took some names. The greatest generation.

5th picture, the cross with the black and white ribbon is the 1813 Prussian Grand Cross of the Iron Cross. Wikipedia says only 5 were awarded for the Napoleonic Wars:
If that is a legit medal, and not a replica, you might have something priceless.

Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, commander of Prussian forces at the Battle of Waterloo, later elevated to the Star of the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross
Friedrich Wilhelm von Bülow
Crown Prince Charles John of Sweden (Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte) - earlier a Marshal under Napoleon, after becoming regent and crown prince of Sweden, he joined the Sixth Coalition against Napoleon.
Bogislav Friedrich Emanuel von Tauentzien
Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg.

The Constabulary was an army unit that was in Germany after WWII to provide security.
The red Airborne patch is Airborne Glider Command... WWII.
The yin yang patch is 29th Infantry.

The two ribbons are Army Good Conduct (red and white one) and European/Africa/Mid East Campaign (brown and green one). The stars on the campaign ribbon indicate additional awards for different campaigns/battles.
The 3 stripes are overseas service stripes. Each one represents 6 months.

Search for authentic relics on eBay and look at seller stores. Click enough links and you'll eventually find your way to the big exchange sites. Awesome collection.

I don't think those are glider patches. They're early Airborne Command patches. I believe the glider guys had flight wings with a G on them.

The blue badge with a rifle and wreath around it is the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) awarded to infantrymen that saw combat.
The one without the wreath is the Expert Infantryman Badge.
Looks like a group of stuff that came from a soldier that spent time in Europe during the war and then after the war as part of the Constabulary.
I'm pretty knowledgeable about American militaria but I can't help with the German stuff. If you want to know more about that stuff sign up at Wehrmacht-Awards.com. It's a forum with guys who collect German military items. They would know all about that stuff.
Also, if you want i can look into your grandpa's military service.

Just bring them to a local gunshow. There are guys that specialize in German medals that can tell you all about them and give you a general appraisal. Usually those guys love to talk about the items so you shouldn't feel uncomfortable asking.

Don't know where he is, but I am blessed to have this near me if you want to go the gun show route.
