Atlanta is only nice if you're rich. Even the suburbs are starting to crumble.

Has lake/s
Yes vs No (Atlanta)
Meh. There's no lake in Atlanta proper, but Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona are both an easy drive away.

Clearly more airports
2 vs 1 (Atlanta)
Sure, but Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest airport in the entire world. There have been talks forever of a second airport, but Delta has blocked talks every single time.

Notably higher average maximum temperature
26.5°C vs 22.3°C (Atlanta)
This is an absolutely terrible thing in my opinion.

Notably more billionaires from annual Forbes report residing within the city

Houston still takes this, but it's inaccurate. Anne Cox Chambers, Bernie Marcus, Dan Cathy, Arthur Blank, Gary Rollins, Randall Rollins, Ted Turner, Jim Kennedy, and Sarah Blakely all live in Atlanta and they're all billionaires.
Not sure exactly where Bubba Cathy lives, but likely in the metro.

Atlanta is in close proximity to mountains, whitewater rafting, great hiking and all that good stuff.
If they had oilfield work there I'd prefer Atlanta. Houston's main drawback is its boring terrain. Otherwise it's not a bad city if you live in the center of it.

You can't be talking about East Cobb. That's still a very nice area, no?

Houston all day. In fact, I do. I didn't like anything about Atlanta.

You have no idea what you're talking about, Atlanta and its suburbs are thriving

I'd also like to note that Texan women are far more skilled at the art of BJ. God bless Texan women with their father's money

I've never lived in Houston, just visited. I spent 8 years in ATL and all other things like friends and jobs being equal I'd pick Atlanta on the milder climate alone. I've seen ATL get a lot of hate on this board, but having months of patio weather instead of weeks is pretty sweet.

Just got back from a week in Nashville. If I were just starting out I'd definitely give the town a look. I used to be a big fan of Atlanta but Nashville would get my vote at this point.

Baw it's the ATL- Georgia
Houston is better for opportunities "as a young professional". You can really build a career in Houston but I much rather live in Atlanta.

Nashville might be the best city to live in the south.

Yeah, no doubt. We just moved back to Alpharetta. Crumbling...hahaha...thriving is the correct description.
Houston's med center and the O&G industry are strong which makes sense if either of those are your deciding factor. Atlanta has a pretty strong medical community though. As others have stated, Atlanta is a beautiful city/metro with two very nice lakes just to the north. It has mountains in N GA, Savannah, and Charleston are 4-5 hrs away and the gulf coast (OB, Destin, 30A, etc) are 6 hrs away.
The only two things I will miss about LA which Houston also has to some extent is saltwater fishing and duck hunting.
We have kids so we live in northern suburbs which are very nice and have superb public schools.
The main thing I noticed about Houston is you'll have really nice areas right next to crap areas...I guess that's why they have so many of those huge planned communities like the woodlands. In Atlanta, you start just north of downtown in midtown/buckhead and drive for an hour to the north all the way up past Cumming and almost everything is nice. It's pretty amazing.
Edit: forgot to mention that Atl is straight SEC country with some ACC mixed in. I can drive to AU, Bama, GA, TN, Fla and USCe LSU games.
And if you like baseball, the Braves are building a new stadium on the north side of town.
