Worst place you have had a language barrier?

Mexico
I have travelled to many countries but have the most trouble in Mexico.
It is my fault. I should be able to speak basic language when traveling. However as a country we don't mandate foreign language in schools. Other countries do and it makes Americans look stupid.

Besides Asia, traveling in Russia is terrible. Their words have numbers and backwards letters in it - can't even guess what their trying to say

Apparently Mexico doesn't mandate foreign languages in schools. Otherwise, you would have no problem communicating in English
