That's a serial killer in the making. That mom should be concerned for her own life.
The kid is almost lifeless. Zero emotions, has seen multiple people killed in his neighborhood, etc. She's lucky I didn't PEC him immediately.

He needs to be institutionalized.

He does. The problem is it's just not that simple anymore. Especially with a child.

She is glad you started this thread because it allows her voice to be heard by more people.

Literally the only reason why Southern is mentioned is to give people a visual of the location of the crime. When I worked for tv stations and wrote for the web the number one thing was to answer the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. By saying that they're simply answering the "where."

Everything a white person says or does these days can be considered racist. Last week a parent told me if her kid was white I'd diagnose them with ADHD and give him medicine. But because he's black I'm ordering further evaluation. I simply told her that I didn't care if her kid was a pink unicorn. He's in my office because their neighbor called the police on her precious little 9yr old. The reason you ask? He found a litter of kittens and decided to throw them one by one against a brick wall until they all died. When I asked him why he did it he looked me right in the eyes and said because he wanted to see something die. The mom filed a report and everything saying I was being unfair to her child.
Just go ahead and euthanize that little shite right now for the betterment of society.

What. The. frick. But you're a racist for not giving him medicine? Kid needs psychotropics, not amphetamines lol

A black, SJW, television reporter. A three time loser IMO.
How do you spell irrelevant?

Or to scare parents whose kids might be attending....and scared people watch the fricking news.

Oh for Christ's sake. STFU with this nonsense.

Any murder near LSU campus is surely to be reported to be in proximity to LSU.
Not that I agree with her, but I think y'all are missing her point.
I think it's the use of "across the railroad tracks" that she is taking issue with. Like on the "other side of the tracks" lies Southern.
It's a historical phrase use to divide the white and black community geographically. Like the other side of 8 Mile.
I think if it had said "close proximity to Southern" she wouldn't have been as triggered

So she's upset because a metaphorical phrase is being used literally?
Posted on 1/12/17 at 10:43 am to SabiDojo
I have no idea. The thread went 3 pages without even mentioning the phrase so I thought I'd bring it up.
Does her post even mention that railroad track phrase? If not, she doesn't even know how to melt properly.
She should be saying "why even use that phrase in a hard news piece. you could have just said 'near Southern University'"

Pretty sure the University of Alabama was mention when the young lady from BR was hit by the train recently, nothing to see here.
Posted on 1/12/17 at 10:46 am to meauxjeaux2
I don't understand why using Southern to help readers know what part of town this happened in is racist. I feel like it's more racist to assume any mention of Southern is being racist

This is the only thing that sticks out. Just seems that it has no place in professional journalism. But then again it's the advocate . In close proximity he to Southern university would have been better

Yeah I mean, I don't know if it was intended to have racial undertones but there's no place for metaphorical phrases in reporting crimes that took place.
Not actually the same situation, but it reminds me of the "Chink in the Armor" headline on ESPN when Jeremy Lin and the Knicks lost. Just use a different phrase.
