I"m generally conservative, but I understand the need for welfare and the safety net it provides. However, it is fricking bullshite with the people who abuse it.
All of this. Wife works with a single mom of 2 who has no college education, so she works 40+ hours a week making a $32,000 salary. She needs food stamps to make ends meet. Woman busts her arse a needs a little help. I am not one to throw her trash ex husband in her face and would certainly prefer to extend a helping hand to someone like that. Lot of good people use these programs.

Playing devil's advocate here. Her argument is, it is her business because she pays taxes and he was paying with taxpayer dollars. Is it not a taxpayer's business how tax dollars are spent?

While she may not know his story and may be somewhat inappropriate for confronting him without all the facts, it's obvious that he is able-bodied and fairly articulate and appears capable of working. There was a time in this country when people cherished being self-reliant and having a high degree of pride and self respect, but not anymore...As far as none of her business, actually it is. The government doesn't generate income, they collect it from every taxpayer in the country - so, to some degree, every taxpayer has a right to call someone out for riding the system.

Nah, brah. You and she have no idea what that guys story is. Family illness. Out of a job and looking for another. Getting a little help to tide him over. Who knows. There are literally thousands if not more legitimate reasons that he might need a little help. There is no way to know if he is abusing it just looking at the guy. And it isn't his responsibility to spill his entire story on demand.

Well if he's looking for a job then his previous job would compensate him properly to do so unless he works at a fricking fast food restaurant in which it wouldn't be hard to find another one promptly.
