re: WNBA Star Speaks Out: "I was bullied for being straight."

I honestly believe that girls HS basketball has been seriously impacted by the perception of it being a sport filled with lesbians.
It seems to be falling off in popularity in favor of other sports such as softball and volleyball.
Case in point. At the schools I previously coached,VB tryouts would have 70+ girls trying out for 30ish spots.
SB would see 50+ trying out for 40 spots.
GBB would have 15-20 trying out for 20 spots.
There is certainly something about the culture of girls/women's basketball that makes it unattractive to young female athletes.

This would be a huge story if the WNBA had any significance at all. Truth is, nobody cares and nobody watches that junk.
BUT IT'S A GREAT DISPLAY OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE GAME!!!!

doubt it's 98% gay in women's basketball
Yeah that seems high. There seems to be a number of women married to men (which doesn't always mean someone is straight, but there is Candace Parker and several others that I know of and I don't really keep up with WNBA). I think the perception is... most of the players are gay.. And there are many of them, but 98%? I'd say.. 70% at the highest.

Johnny Jones knows the feeling.

Not shocked, but shocked it is that high.
Yeah, I would've pegged it at around 95%.

I'd love to talk to the downvoter and see why he or she likes the WNBA.

I hope they do but let's not pretend that the WNBA isn't propped up by the NBA. I don't have a problem with the WNBA or any other women's professional league, I'm just telling the truth.

She's literally saying that when she played in the WNBA only 2 other players in the entire league were straight?
That's an obvious lie.

I doubt it's as high as 98 % heterosexual in men's sports
I'd guess the general population is around 3-5% homo so male sports being only 2% homo wouldn't surprise me.
ETA: oh, were you including soccer?

What do gay people call straight people? You know, straight people call gay people f--, q----, pillow biters, etc..
Do they call straight people"missionary positioners" or something?

There is the whole knee injury thing- when relatives played on HS and College teams it seemed like every single year 10-20% of the team would suffer a major knee injury.
Here's a study on it Women 4 to 6 times more likely to suffer major knee injuries
It seems like it happens way more often in WBB vs other Women's sports- even sports with similar or more contact like Soccer.

The demographics of sexual orientation and gender identity in the United States have been more accurately studied in the social sciences in recent decades. In the first large-scale government survey measuring Americans’ sexual orientation, the NHIS reported in July 2014 that 1.6 percent of Americans identify as gay or lesbian, and 0.7 percent identify as bisexual.[1] In a Williams Institute review based on an June–September 2012 Gallup poll, approximately 3.4 percent of American adults identify themselves as being LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender)
Just FYI.

I'll give you volleyball. It seems to be the sport of choice for non-lesbian girls, but softball has a ton of lesbianism in it.
Full disclosure: Got shot down by a college softball player that my friends told me to ask out. They laugh until this day that I couldn't tell.

Yeah, it's around what I thought it would be.
People don't understand percentages enough to realize that saying 10% of people are gay is just straight up unreasonable...much less 70%.
10% would mean the average person would know, in my estimation, 200 gay people (I'm obviously putting the number of people you have met and "kind-of sort-of" remember at 2000. Totally arbitrary but reasonable I think.
