It wasn't a debate. The guy had an emotional reaction to a provocative and offensive t-shirt, and called the other guy out. And yes, those t-shirts are offensive. They declare that blackness = victimhood, whiteness = offender/oppressor. It's delusional.

black guy realized it was no use wasting his breath arguing with bigot redneck so he bowed out of the argument and let the redneck 'win', knowing that those who are less educated are more likely to start a physical confrontation during an intellectual disagreement.

It was a smooth arse way to end it. Although the black guy's argument is retarded and not backed by facts or logic.

What about the white guy seemed "redneck"?

His accent, his clothes, and his actual red neck. Nothing wrong with any of that. He seemed like a sharp fellow and probably has overcome some real adversity in taking care of his son.

I would have given him a slow clap but I'm a coward.

People are usually kinder to one another in person. It's when they congregate in groups (or on the internet) that the problems start.

The term "redneck" was originally a class-based insult, used by wealthy planters to disparage those poor whites who had to work in the fields -- their necks would darken from the constant exposure to the sun, hence the term.

So a redneck is simply someone who works hard. Rather than be insulted, people should wear the name proudly.

Definitely. The black couple seemed intelligent and compassionate. I don't think they'll be showing up on world star anytime soon.

I think they're just misguided on that one issue.

Stop wearing offensive t-shirts if you don't want to get confronted. Yes, he de-escalated the situation nicely, but he bears responsibility for the encounter and should be prepared to smooth the feathers of those who get ruffled.

Why is he a redneck in the thread title and merely a middle aged white man in the thread? Shock value?

Fair enough. Redneck is not always used as a pejorative, but when it is introduced in a discussion about racism or classism, it does contain a pejorative element, usually connoting unsophistication and ignorance and perhaps even a tendency towards violence.

It appears the BLM's argument is based on perception. Why is the white guy's perception irrelevant?

coonasses are cajun folk that like to pass a good time, yell out things like aaaaaaaeeeeeee for no reason whatsoever, and consider nutria meat a delicacy. common coonass names are t-boy & marie, and if a coonass does not know your name they will call you share.
