I have a 400sqft enclosed garage(15 windows) that I need to install a window a/c unit.

Should I do LG 10,000 BTU($300), 12000 BTU, or 15000 BTU($400).

The 10K BTU is rated for up to 450sqft
15K BTU 800sqft.

The $100 price difference is of no significance to me. I figure why not do the beast 15K BTU unit when it only cost 100 more.

opinions?

Why wouldn't you get the "overkill" solution... it's better to have TOO MUCH A/C as opposed to too little..

Don't be a pussy and get the bigger one.

Get as big as you can afford and the existing line will hold. Thermostats are a nice feature.

I had a GE about 12,000 BTU for that size room and worked great but was oversized. It did not hurt anything and I still have it and still runs great. I am going to get another one and will get GE again and probably the same size. I think the new ones only use like 500 watts which is about half of my Water Pump on my Deep Well.

In my experience, that rating is for a well insulated room...if you are talking about a garage with 15 windows, I would surely go with the larger unit...

Why on earth do you have 15 windows in a 400 sq ft garage? Or am I not reading this right?

I had a 10k unit in my 465sqft garage and it kept it cooler obviously but not cool enough if you were to sit in there to watch a game or something. With no insulation garages get extremely hot. Go with the bigger one.

I'd buy the biggest one that would fit.

Maybe look at a PTAC unit for your garage. I have a 300 sq/ft garage I keep at whatever temperature I want. Don't know the details of it but it's awesome.

It was an open car port that was enclosed. Two walls of windows right next to each other thoughout. I think its only 13 windows.

It was 90 in there and only 80degrees outside in the late evening.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll order it off amazon to save on the tax. Homedepot has it for 400 and walmart has it for 500+.
