Frank John Hughes was probably the most spot on casting in BoB. Any time they did the pre-episode interviews with the actual soldiers, there was no guessing who Wild Bill was.

The stars come from his two combat jumps-Normandy and Market Garden.

Yes. Bill Guarnere, given the nickname 'gonorrhea' by his brothers-in-arms.

I was talking to the folks spelling the nickname 'ghonnaria', not the folks up front correctly spelling the man's last name.
