Somebody used her account to order an Uber earlier this evening. We didnt pay any attention to it. Thought it was some glitch. This was 6 hours ago. Now my wife just got a receipt from Uber for $512. Somebody took a 300 something mile trip in New York using her account and we don't know anybody in New York. We live in California. It is obvious her account got hacked somehow. Calling American Express to dispute the charge. What other recourse do we have?

Seems like that's not very competitive with taxi rates, apart from the whole getting somebody else to pay for it by stealing their account thing.

Her password was probably very easy to crack. Was it "Password"?

You have to be a real fan of it for that to be a practical option.

AMEX is the absolute best about this kind of shite. They will cancel your card, fedex you a new one and remove the charge from your account.

Called Amex and cancelled the card. They said the Uber charge is still pending and as soon as it posts, they will open a fraudulent case against it. They are Fedexing a new card and we should have it in a couple of days.

I did some research and apparently a lot of people's Uber accounts have been hacked and they are seeing charges for rides they didn't take. Apparently the hacked account are for sale for $1 each on the Dark Web. FBI is now looking into it. Oh well, time to change all her passwords.

It was probably your wife going to see her boyfriend and she made up that story once you found out.

Mainly because a cab driver would never agree to take you on a 300 mile trip.
