While not endangered or threatened, their main threat is human ignorance. Diamondback water snakes are often mistaken for cottonmouths or rattlesnakes and killed out of fear. In actuality, diamondback water snakes (and other species of water snake) are far more common than the venomous snakes in their range, especially in areas frequented by humans.

Your day will come.
It depends on where you live, as well.

Garter snakes don't count.

Warning The Diamondback Water Snake can be quick to bite if provoked and is capable of inflicting numerous small lacerations, but its bite is not venomous. This behavior, often results in Diamondbacks being misidentified as poisonous Cottonmouths.

Only if that's a 2 liter water bottle next to it. That snake isn't that big judging it's size next to that water bottle. Maybe a 2 footer, 2.5 tops .
Now don't get me wrong / anything over a foot long & I'm dancing a jig while screaming like a little girl.

If I see a snake, I will not take the time to determine whether its venemous or not. Because I will be too busy running for my life
