For that matter, why should the far left lane on any 3 lane (in one direction) interstate ever COMPLETELY stop?

Help me to understand this...

When a lot of people are trying to merge into the right lane everyone merges left and you see slowdowns and at times a complete stop. Its not really brain surgery.

Why should any lane on an interstate come to a complete stop?

The answer is congestion coupled with varying reaction time of the different drivers.

IMO, when there are 3 or more lanes people don't consider the far left lane a passing lane. They just think pick one and roll. When there are two lanes, most people realize the left lane is for passing (although there are dummies that don't know this and certainly others that don't respect it).

all it takes is one dumbass to press their brakes or be driving slow to cause a train reaction for miles

People cutting over due to lands ending is usually the culprit.

If people were half intelligent, it'd be possible to maintain some speed in spite of the dread merge. I understand slowdowns but dead stops are only Bc most drivers are retarded.

EXACTLY my point. My phone stays in my front pocket. I ignore texting while I drive. I have bluetooth for phone calls.

I'm thinking that ALL merging activities should take place in the two lanes to the right.

Anything other than that is moronic.
