In 1991, I spent some time wandering on the campus at Texas Tech in Lubbock. I went inside a gate that was clearly open and looked down at the football stadium. No one with security came after me. The stadium is built under normal ground level so that when I went inside the gate, I was already at mid level seating.

I don't think any major university stadiums are.

Some schools will open their track facilities but a lot don't.

If there's no game/event, then what's the harm?

I wonder what the first question will be and who will be blamed after someone plants a bomb and it goes off during the game with a 100,000 fans.

Times have changed.

The stadiums I have visited that were open had synthetic turf rather than real grass. I'll always remember the time I was in Columbus Ohio in the fall and went on campus the Sunday after a game. The stadium was being used for intramural games. Beautiful stadium, by the way.

Yep. The Swamp is generally always open. I wish Tiger Stadium was. I'd go run steps there or show out of town visitors around.

As with everything else, people doing dumb shite and being sue happy has ruined it for everyone else.

I'm past being mad at lawyers for not policing their own scumbags and plaintiff's bar infesting all sections of local, state, and federal government. At this point, I am mad at the end users, the idiots that sue over stupid shite like eating batteries, or getting dick cancer because they rigged the microwave to work with the door off so they could have sex with a melon while it was heating up.

I'm a massive libertarian, but I'm starting to see it just won't work, because the populace is collectively dumb. We vote in assholes who pander saying yeah they are one of us, only to laugh in our face when they go to Washington and dip their dick into five lobbyist paid hookers while eating the finest steaks money can buy. We argue about dumb shite like bathrooms while we have an abortion of a tax code and our war on drugs has basically destroyed our legal system. shite, we literally have an ex-Verizon lawyer obviously siding with his previous employer about something so monumentally crony capitalism it makes anyone who's educated on the matter's eyes bleed.

In short, we as a populace are stupid, ignorant, and it's not likely to change. That's why we can't do fun things anymore.
