Indian summer and blackberry winter. Been around long enough to remember my grandparents use these terms and even know what they mean.

But there's been a few mild winters in recent years.

It was like this my freshman year at LaTech 1982/83, couple years later all of central USA was frozen over 2-3 weeks straight. Spent 3 weeks out of classes and basically north half of La shutdown that entire period.

That was the winter when at Christmas at parents in Tulsa went to airport on bright clear day to pick up sister. Turned to leave and a blizzard was occurring in the front of the airport. Turns out the heat transfer unit on roof, with a slight breeze, was responsible. The steam was freezing only a few inches above the roof unit and falling as snow. So cold that as far south as Shreveport the ice/snow was dissipating instead of melting (skipping the liquid stage and going straight from solid to vapor).

Watch out for a doozy of a winter if we start seeing swarms of woolly boogers the next year or so. (woolly boogers are those black/brown hairy caterpillars that show up in the Fall)

El Nino or whatever in the Pacific Ocean. We were told far in advance it would be a very mild winter for the South. Could continue for few more years.

It is not unusual here to be wearing a t-shirt and shorts at Christmas, but I don't recall any winter where the girls on my street are washing cars in bikinis in January like they were this week. At this rate it will be the warmest winter on record here. I've been trying to schedule a bikini photo shoot with the chick in my sig pic. It was 82 degrees today. She had an audition though, dammit.

Yep... The La Nina pacific causes the jet stream to remain further north not allowing for the arctic cold to get down south...
