I think it's because horses are perceived as being intelligent enough to know what's about to happen to them at the slaughter house. You would have to fool them into thinking you were only going to give them a shower or something, See where I'm going with this Dr Mengele.....I mean BamaHater. Our society draws the line at cows and pigs when it comes to large animals. I think it preserves the moral image we have of ourselves as a society. Cows and pigs go quietly.

Pigs are certainly more intelligent than horses though. They're smarter than most breeds of dogs. If you raise a horse in the same conditions pigs are, and they'd come the same. I don't see how this argument holds any water due to how we treat the pig.

I actually have quite literally eaten arse. I preferred it to the horse I've eaten.

This why you people can't have nice things. Stick to eating armadillo and opossum.

There is a huge amount of horses butchered in the US. If it wasn't illegal, she would. But there are thousands of horses butchered for meat in Florida alone every year, drug filled or not.

But that is in no way where the majority end up.

Half of those are stolen, too.

Most still cross both borders.

I'd wager more than half in Florida.

I don't like the idea of old and unwanted horses being abandoned. At least when slaughter was allowed, there was a place to send them.
Personally, I'd have a hard time eating horse.

As I've said in here before, I wish they would legalize it here again. At least it would be regulated.
