re: Why is ESPN/NFL Network dedicating a segment on number of black coaches?

It'd be nice if that was the way it is but biases are frequently a part of any person's decision making. If they weren't then we wouldn't be human.
I'm not going to call it racism but owners, GMs hire coaches that they are comfortable with. It's the same thing with big corporations. The CEOs don't make their decisions based purely on the qualifications. It's about personality, culture fit as well. A lot of the people they're comfortable with look like them and hang around them a lot. They golf together, they vacation together. If that person happens to be black, then he gets hired. Often times he's not black. You can't really tell owners who to hang around and who to be comfortable with.
I don't think it's a conscious decision that owners and GMs are making to exclude minorities. I don't think they're racist, but they do hire based on those types of biases I mentioned earlier. I'm black by the way, and I hate the Rooney rule. Doesn't really solve anything. I don't think the "issue" can be addressed by a rule.

Because the country is now aware of how America hates black people, how white privilege prevents black people from living normal lives, and that all white people are racist (even if they don't know it).

No really, that's why.

Espn has in fact gone off the track the past several years.

There are plenty of things wrong with ESPN's coverage of this, but your argument is a terrible way to go about doing it.
Why because you think there are black coaches being overlooked because of their race?
It's either that or it's they're not as many qualified to be head coach

Exactly. The Rooney Rule is a pile of pandering shite that does nothing.
I just get frustrated when people bring up white CBs or RBs as if it some kind of counterpoint. Judging the best man for an individual position on the field is significantly easier to quantify than selecting a DL coach. The hiring of coaches is much more subjective, so to apply the logic you would to a CB is ridiculous. I wish people wouldn't fall to that level because it is an easily defeated point.

The media wants equal results, not equal opportunity.
Unless whites are a minority then no one cares.
Ever see an uproar over the lack of white cornerbacks drafted?
It's white guilt, and it's terrible:
"See, we're not racist look"

So, do what I did years ago and turn the channel.

Because its July and football season is right around the corner.
They have been rolling this story out every year for at least the past 10 seasons or so. It will be even worse if there are no teams with black coaches come playoff time.

I don't think it is when a rule exists forcing you to interview a certain amount of minority candidates. If they're the most qualified, why do we need a rule forcing them to be considered?

Apparently Sehorn is the last white CB, but Edelman did play some snaps at CB in 2011. Other than that there have been none.

No I don't believe it is explicitly because of their race. I think it has much more to do with who is making the decisions at that level and the social circles that person frequents. The hiring of coaches is often very, very subjective. We see coaches get retread time and time again. Getting your foot in that door has little to do with race.

I edited, and I'm sure you could follow the point regardless.

The Rooney Rule is asinine and I've said so myself.
I'm saying the metrics uses to determine which CB sees the field are significantly less prone to subjectivity than which coach you hire for a particular job.
I don't believe qualified black coaches are getting passed up because of their race, but I think their social choices and the social choices of those who make the decisions don't often commingle. I'm not even sure there is a problem that needs to be fixed, it is just human nature.

ESPN really went full SJW during the Michael Sam debacle, and haven't gone back since.
Any program (including live sports) has gotten incredibly SJW and preachy.

I don't disagree with that either. I do think it's existence is a fair point when talking about the white minority in the league though.

Don't disagree with any of that either. Look at that, we 90% agree on something

17 teams have hired black coaches but only 2 hired another once said black coach failed.
Maybe quit being shitty coaches? Not a race issue imo. How many white coaches have failed and been replaced? College or NFL, coaching is tough.

Meh, it is pretty boring. Maybe Tangerine will come along and we can gang up on him.
