They would be easier to understand. Is this some club where you have to know their language? Because it's fricking jibberish bullshite and it needs to stop.

Because people got shite to do. No one has time for Foghorn Leghorn to mediate the bidding.

Eta: but yeah, I don't really get it either.

It's awesome. It's about working up a frenzy. Nothing like a livestock or tobacco auction.

Learning that cadence is work. I studied it for awhile.

I don't mind it, but the guy at my local sale barn switches selling by the head and by the pound for no particular reason. By the pound gets tricky because they don't step onto a scale until the leave the ring once bidding is done. By the head, you know what you are paying when you bid.

Because auctioneers get a cut of the auction. If they just spoke regular anyone could do it and they would lose their profession.

They are very arrogant about it as well, like its some secret power.

same reason that casinos make those binging sounds on the slots and the stick men have all of those colorful calls on the craps table

Move the auction along at a pace to keep every potential bidder awake and to drive up excitement for the items. They make a commision so the more they sell and drive up costs the more money they make.

Then poor people would be able to get in on all these outstanding deals!

Seriously though, is this something that you run into enough in your everyday life, that you became bothered enough to start a message board thread about it?

I go to a few auctions per year. Usually Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl (LSU Chapter banquet tonight). Then Turkey banquets with auctions etc. So yes, it's crossed my mind several times with the question "why" every single time.

Auctioneers do talk normal, however when they are auctioning they are....auctioning. Can you imagine Ben Stein facilitating a live auction? Holy frick.
