At least once a month we are picking up dogs on the side of the road and bringing them down to the ASPCA in New Orleans so they don’t die.

We don’t have the ability to pick up every dog we see. A couple months back, we were able to rescue most of a litter of puppies (along with some help from TD) but damn why does Louisiana have such a problem with this?

If we don’t stop and pick them up, we usually see them dead and bloated on the road a day or two later... People in this area, and Louisiana in general, don’t give a shite about their dogs.

Friday we picked up a malnourished lab/boxer mix. Really sweet girl, maybe a year or 2 old. Called the local shelter but it is full.

This isn't a LA problem, this is a rural area problem.

I’ve lived and traveled throughout the United States. I’ve never seen as huge of a problem as it is in Louisiana.

You answered your own question. No doubt thousands of pets were simply abandoned during Katrina, etc. Dogs are the best and most loyal animals on the planet and why so many a mistreated is beyond understanding and speaks to the inhumanity of humanity.

why? there needs to be a little population control. This is a quality of life issue. If a dog is a stray and all you are doing by bringing it to a shelter is prolonging the shitty life the dog is living.

Well it’s in the NO metro area, so there’s probably a more educated, more responsible populace than what rural Louisiana holds.

well generally the people that have the urge to stop and pick up strays are the ones that will seek out a no kill shelter.
