I honestly think institutionalisation needs to become a thing again.

Not how it was in the 30's and 40's and what not, but we've swung too far the other way. There are too many chronically mentally ill people on the streets that shouldn't be.

We need to have a compassionate way of helping take care of them, but we need not do so at the expense of our general population

In a city the size of Houston or LA, what would you suggest they do about it?

I'm not sure. My question is, though, why has this phenomenon seemingly exponentially exploded in the past several years?

It used to be somewhat unusual to see someone sleeping outside in cities beyond one or two "bums" here and there. Now you see them by the hundreds, with tents and tons of shite accumulating around them, literally pretty much everywhere you travel. The question is, where were these people 10 years ago, and why do we have this sudden proliferation of this shite?

I don't see the point of keeping them awake. What would that solve? I like them better asleep than awake anyway

I think people shouldn't feed them or give them money. There should be shelters/soup kitchens away from the city. Its not mean or dark, you just cant harrass me everytime i walk the block and scream obscenities. And im tired of seeing them suffer when they dont have to.

I do think it's humorous they'll write a white college kid a PI because he was drunk and decided to sleep on a park bench but won't touch a homeless.

I think our government has spoken thru actions and has given us many examples that if a big enough group of similar types wants to do something they can do it with no repercussions.

Oh it will definitely be at the expense of our general population. How else do you think it will be paid for?

College can and will pay for the citation. Revenue.

Homeless person can't and won't so then you have to feed and house them in jail. The opposite of revenue.

Institutionalizing might be offset by costs that we already have dealing with the homeless.

The problem I've found is many are addicted to drugs and drink, so they would prefer to stay on the street. We have that issue here. There are many programs for the homeless but quite a few would rather be on the street so they can use or drink.

I know some cities have opened housing that allows them to drink. I think in Seattle they even supply the booze.

It's probably less expensive than the status quo

Here is a solution. Why not create a few homeless shelters outside of the major cities. They can be ran by the state or possibly the federal govt if this became a national solution.

Personally, I do not understand why homeless people are not automatically put on welfare. We could possibly offer some type of job training to these people since everyone complains about taxes to help the poor. I honestly think a small investment can go a long way. If you help people out, they will carry their own weight.

Some of the programs out there are quite interesting. Ok sir we're going to put a roof over your head, feed you, and give you alcohol, pipes, needles ....whatever you need my man.

You need to check your brain because I don't think that it's working correctly.

Wanting chronically mentally ill people off the streets means my brain isn't working?

Just because someone is homeless doesn't mean they are complete trash, doesn't make them beggars....

I love when posters show their true colors, which is mostly ignorance.

Many many people are one bad fortune to being homeless.

Allow them to sleep in the city? What are we supposed to, knock some pots and pans together when they start to nod off?
