This. They would love a confession but they ae good with just having the suspect admit they were there. Also the detectives are good about saying "tell us your side, was it self defense" giving the suspect an out

It's called the Reid Technique, it's based on psychology, and it can extract confessions from people, whether they actually committed a crime or not. Never, ever talk to the police without a lawyer present, even if you did nothing wrong. LINK

the cops entice them into talking. for lesser crimes it's typically telling them if they cooperate, they'll go to the just THEMSELVES and say the defendant cooperated and ask the judge for a low low bond
In a lot of states, the laws are written so that even someone who helps commit a crime, but doesn't do the killing will get charged with murder. These guys actually admit to being there knowing good and well the laws.

I guess I find it hard to understand that no matter how stupid someone is, they will own up to murder and basically put themselves in jail for life. I don't even understand how someone thinks they can get convicted based on a witness testimony.

Of course they've been doing it in New Orleans lately and haven't gotten any confessions

Are they just that dumb?
Is it guilt?
Are they trying to justify killing the other person?

Maybe they just want prison sex.

I fricking love this show and i always have the same damn questions you are asking. Half the time, I think they are just that dumb that they get jedi mind fricked into confessing. Other times I think its just something thats a part of their culture and they nust dgaf.

shite, all they have to do is say, "I'm not speaking to you without a lawyer present", and they would get free half of the time. How hard is that?

Eta: I need a new avi. Just noticed my shite ain't there anymore

Like HCB said, I wouldn't be surprised if lots of it is fake.

I can see it happening on a few, but not most. They don't catch people at all sometimes, and almost always take at least a week to solve. If you have seen it, it would have to be pretty damn expensive and elaborate to be fake. You also have to take into account that the people on the show are actually detectives and accused IRL

the entire case or do you think they tell them "hey just talk to us and we won't prosecute...we are trying to make a reality show"

I personally don't see how any of it can be fake except how some of the backstory and interaction of the detectives is portrayed

You are giving them way too much credit...most think if they didn't pull the trigger they are good.

I'm just skeptical of reality shows in general is what I'm saying.

I am also. I do think they "set up" some of the family stuff...victims and detectives. As far as the case though i think it is legit. Had an episode in NOLA on last night and it just seemed really fake...other than the case itself.

It always blows my mind that people will talk to the police without a lawyer present.

For those lurkers reading the OT. Dont listen to this guy. Nothing wrong with talking to your friendly neighborhood police officer. If you are a law abiding citizen then there is nothing to fear. If you have made a mistake in judgment and think you may possibly get in trouble then why not face up to it and start the road to redemption. Remeber, although police are paid, they chose the profession because they want to help. They want to help those in need whether it be a victim, or a misguided person who has made a few bad decisions.
