Some girls like them because I guess they feel like pit bulls are persecuted and they feel sorry for them.

They are very playful, loyal, and affectionate animals. However, they are very energetic and strong and love to rough-house, which can cause them to injure people if not properly disciplined. Pit Bulls are sweet, but they often do not know their own strength.
There is nothing inherently wrong with pit bulls, just as there was nothing wrong with dobermans and rottweilers before them as the dangerous dog du jor. The issue is bad owners.

Hound mixes don't have as much energy. It's the combination of energy+playfulness+strength+bad owners.
