Why do old people end up hospitalized for dehydration so often?

Their aged bodies can't take some dryness, or they just don't drink anything?

Or byproduct of all the drugs they are taking?

It's from mixing a keto diet with exercise and heavy drinking.

Kidneys aren't working as strong in old age.

It's surprisingly simple--mostly they refuse to drink enough.

I work outside all day and the only time I have been hospitalized for it was due to stomach flu. Gotta drink a lot of water and know when to call it quits in the heat.

I see tourists dropping like flies all summer because they are not use to the heat. They sit in AC every day and then go on vacation out in the heat but they continue their usual diet of junk food and soda.

They think it is stupid to carry bottles of water around all the time.

Thin skin
Watery stool
Incontinence
Often can't take in as much liquid when drinking

Plus...the level of dehydration a 30-yo may have during a softball game could be dangerous to an elderly person.

Going to bathroom every 5 minutes is a huge hassle so they just stop drinking altogether.

Not drinking enough H2O.

Even those without Alzheimer's or dementia will forget to drink as well. They just get in routines.

From what I've seen they are just not aware of their body temperature and as you get older your water content in your body decreases.

You have to literally tell them to drink water because they have less capacity of feeling thirsty.

and if it's hot for you it's definitely too hot for them and they should head into an air conditioned place and force them to drink water.

I have begged my elderly mother to drink more water. She simply will not and suffers from bladder infections routinely. I have given up.

This, plus feeling bloated after drinking. My 82 y/o mom forces herself to finish one 16.9 oz. bottle of water at a time, she hates the way she feels after. She's been dehydrated, but still forces herself to drink, but just that little bit.

By being stupid and not repeatedly hydrating yourself, regardless of age.
Speaking from experience.
Ended up hospitalized and never did repeated that situation.
