Why do historically black colleges still exist?

Politicians argue about removing racist statues.
But these colleges are true symbols of racism and segregation. And they generally suck academic wise.
Its pretty much the same as keeping seperate water fountains.

I wanna say I just saw something on how southern's nursing program is apparently awesome or something like that.

I had a cousin who went on a minority scholarship.
Said some of the instruction was good, but SO MANY of the professors and students were ate up with the stupid.

Jackson State University received a lot of money and they upgraded everything. New facilities, new everything. It looks really nice.
The result? High tuition costs and a ROI that rivals SCAD as one of the worst in the country. They also displaced many low income residents in order to make room for the renovations/new additions.
Money doesn't fix everything. So what do you do with these universities?

Scrap the HBCU moniker? It is a distinction that has outlived it's purpose.

Historically black means just that.... historically black. When African Americans weren't allowed at most other universities, these were the only option. They still exist today for the same reason any other university exist. I believe they allow anyone of any ethnicity to enroll.

My memory may be a little fuzzy, but if I recall whites could use any fountain they wanted. It was the rest who had to use the designated fountain for their appearance.
